We had reservations. I don't know why you ask if it's for a special occasion, when you do nothing with the information. It was my hubby's birthday, and this was a special occasion for us. We rarely go out to eat.
We were seated right away. It was cramped. The tables and chairs are too close together.
The service was good, even when we had the bartender as our server. Things weren't perfect, as others were supposed to fill water, and serve bread. They didn't. I asked for bread - which he thought we already had.
The food was good. I opted for the small plate (I love smaller portions!), Tuna with mashed plantains, mango, and avocado crema. delish! Hubby had the Petite Seafood Plateau - the oysters were superb, Shrimp Cocktail was good, but Ceviche, even though flavorful, had too may onions, and the Calamari was tough and inedible. He then had the Halibut, which was amazing, even though a little small. The squash didn't have much flavor. We then opted for the Tres Leches cake... our first. Yummy. The fruit was very good.
We had the Mary's Margaritas, which were really good. Pretty expensive for the size - $14
The bread was very good. I think olive oil (esp with herbs) without balsamic would be MUCH better.
All in all, it was a very good dinner.
My wife and I enjoyed our experience overall at Oceano, mostly pros, just one con that wasn’t entirely the restaurants fault.
Pros-Cool vibe/atmosphere, attentive and friendly wait staff, incredible elevated and fresh cuisine, very impressed!
Cons-We were a party of 2 hoping for a slow paced relaxed date night. Unfortunately we were sat roughly 10 feet from a party of 16 that were increasingly over time louder and louder. Neither one of us could hear each other that well, and we decided to be efficient with our stay unfortunately. Not the establishments fault for the noise but it wasn’t very busy when we arrived, why sit is that close to a party like that? Anyway still 5 stars and we’ll be back for another try.
The food was delicious, fresh and absolutely amazing. Took my daughters to brunch and we had a wonderful experience. Food was top tier. Shrimp and grits was perfectly done, chicken and waffle was scrumptious- dessert were heavenly.
Went here on a date. What an amazing place. Food was so good we had the meatballs and buttnut soup as our starter thing she had the grilled octopus, and we shared the pealle. A must to place for seafood in Richmond!!!!
First time visiting Oceano, but it will not be our last. Food, drinks, and service were great. Lance, our waiter was excellent! Oyster Rockefeller was not on the menu, but the chef happily prepared it for us, delicious!! I think it may have been the best we ever had. We will definitely be returning.
